Why we publish this

Selling AI to someone who shouldn't buy it produces one small invoice and one loud, justified critic. Not selling it produces a person who trusts the next thing we say. That's the whole commercial logic of honesty, and it's why the assistant on this site is literally instructed to talk people out of spending when the spending wouldn't pay. These are the signs it's watching for.

The signs, plainly

Your admin is genuinely light

If the repetitive layer of your week is an hour, the maths never works: tools cost more than they'd save. Enjoy the rare blessing of a business that doesn't need this yet.

You can't yet answer the basics

An assistant grounded in your prices needs you to HAVE prices — written ones. If 'what do you charge' genuinely depends on your mood, fix the pricing first; it's free and worth more than any tool.

The chaos is structural, not clerical

AI accelerates whatever process exists. If jobs are lost because nobody knows who owns them, automation delivers the confusion faster. A one-page process beats a build, and costs nothing.

You'd be buying to feel modern

'Everyone's doing AI' is marketing pressure, not a business case. The case is always a named job eating named hours. No named job, no purchase.

Cash is genuinely tight. The free shelf exists

The score, the checkers, the free tiers of the big assistants. A business under pressure should exhaust the £0 layer completely before a single paid conversation. Ours included.

What 'not yet' actually means

Most 'not ready' signs can be fixed without us. Write your price list, sketch your process, and let admin grow until the numbers work. When one task starts taking up real hours each week, you're ready. Use the start-with-the-job guide then. Meanwhile, try our free score tool. It will honestly tell you if you're 'not yet' ready. A free tool that only flatters is worth nothing.
