What is a prompt (and why yours matter)?

Prompts are important because an LLM only knows what you tell it. It can't see your face, know your standards, or understand your context. If you say, 'Write a post about our sale', you'll get something generic. But if you say, 'Write a friendly two-line post telling regulars our winter sale starts Friday, no exclamation marks', you'll get something useful. You made the key decisions, not the machine.

Think of the AI as a new employee on their first day. Give them the same context you would give a person: who it's for, the tone to use, essential facts, and what to avoid. For example, a plumber asking for a quote email would need to add the job details, price, and earliest date. That's the crux of 'prompt engineering'.
