ChatGPT vs Claude for a small business: an honest comparison.

A comparison we're oddly qualified to make: this business runs on both companies' models, daily, in production. Here's what we've actually learned — and why the brand question matters less than everyone hopes.

Our basis for comparing — stated up front

Under this website's bonnet, different tasks use models from OpenAI (ChatGPT's maker) and Anthropic (Claude's). Each is chosen based on its performance. The owner uses both assistants daily, so this comparison is from real experience, not just specs. The honest truth? For typical small-business tasks, both are excellent. The difference is smaller than marketing suggests, and it changes as new versions improve. Any review claiming a permanent winner is just showing one week's results.

What we've actually observed

For everyday drafting

Emails, posts, summaries, replies — the differences are taste, not capability. Both do the work; pick the interface you enjoy, because the tool you enjoy is the one you'll actually use.

Writing voice differs subtly

Many people find Claude's prose a touch more natural and ChatGPT's a touch more eager. Our practical advice: paste the same real task into both free tiers and read the results aloud. Your ear will pick your brand in five minutes, and it beats anyone's benchmark.

The ecosystems differ more than the writing

Both offer free tiers and paid plans around the £20/month mark, and each bundles different extras. If a specific feature matters to you, check it exists on the tier you'd buy — features move too fast for a blog post to list honestly.

For business data, the earlier rule outranks the brand choice entirely

Paid/business tiers with training excluded, or nothing sensitive goes in. Both companies offer that; the free consumer tiers of both deserve more caution than they get.

The question that matters more

Choosing which brand to subscribe to is a small decision. The big choice is about the tier. Do you want a general tool or something tailored to your business? That's where the real difference is. We pick models for each job because, at the right tier, the brand is just a detail. What matters are the grounding, connections, and approval steps around the model. These determine if it helps your business. The logo on the model doesn't. Models change quickly. We'll update this page when there's a real shift, not just a new version.
