Why chatbots made everyone angry
Old chatbots were like decision trees disguised as chat windows. You'd press 1 for opening hours, type 'agent', get misunderstood, and go round in circles. They couldn't read, only match. Anything unexpected hit a wall, and you'd hear 'I didn't quite get that'. Customers felt processed, not helped.
A modern assistant is different. It's an LLM that truly reads what's written. It uses real business information to answer actual questions, even the oddly phrased ones. And it can hand over to a human when needed.
The thirty-second test
Ask something reasonable but unscripted
'can I bring my dog', 'do you do gift receipts'. A menu-bot collapses; an assistant answers or honestly says it doesn't know.
Ask it two things in one message
Reading is the whole difference; matching can't cope with 'and also'.
Ask for a human
The good ones hand over warmly and immediately. The bad ones loop. How a tool fails tells you what it is.
The honest caveat
An assistant is only as good as its knowledge of your business. A great model without this is just a chatbot with better manners. So, the real question isn't 'is it AI?', but 'what does it know about us, and what happens when it doesn’t know?'. You can test me on this right now.
