API Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the Katalis developer APIs (the endpoints under /api/v1/, and their keys, docs and free demos — the “APIs”). By creating a developer account, requesting a key, or calling any API, you agree to them. Katalis is an independent business, run as a sole trader from 43 East Street, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7SW, United Kingdom, VAT registration number GB 215 2836 23. Questions: katalis@meetkatalis.com.

Your licence to use the APIs

We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to call the APIs within your plan's limits and these terms. Your API key is yours to keep secret — you're responsible for everything done with it. You can rotate a key from your dashboard at any time; rotation invalidates the old secret immediately and starts a fresh usage history for the new key identifier.

Credits and metering

Plans are metered in credits, not flat calls. Each endpoint has a published credit weight — simple lookups cost 1 credit, heavier analysis costs more (for example a Business Score is 10 credits and a Fit & Approach Assessment is 25), as shown on each API's page and in your dashboard's cost table. On the free tier, premium endpoints meter at double their standard weight. Requests rejected by the per-key rate ceiling (currently 60 requests/minute) never consume credits. Requests that fail validation after processing has begun (for example a document URL we fetch but cannot read) may consume the endpoint's credits, because the work was done. Credit weights may change; the published tables are always current.

Accounts and verification

Developer accounts require a verified email address and a verified mobile number (SMS code) — this is what keeps the free tier generous and the platform abuse-free. You can close your account at any time from dashboard settings; closure (including deletion of your keys and personal data) is actioned within 30 days, after any live subscription is cancelled.

Data sources and licensing

Some responses are derived from public sources. Company data contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (Crown copyright), and you must keep that attribution and licence link if you pass the data on. Where a response returns a company's logo, that is a link to the company's own published brand asset for identification (nominative) use only; logos and trademarks remain the property of their owners, and no licence or endorsement is implied — ensuring your use of a mark is lawful is your responsibility.

AI-generated output, scores and accuracy

Some responses (summaries, classifications, and any score, rating or “quality” assessment) are generated automatically, in places by AI. They are indicative opinion, not statements of fact, are derived only from the information available at the time, and can be incomplete or wrong. They are not legal, professional, financial, credit or compliance advice, and must not be relied on as the sole basis for a decision about any person or company. You are responsible for verifying anything important.

Acceptable use

Please use the APIs lawfully and reasonably. You must not: rebuild or redistribute a bulk copy of an underlying source (e.g. mirror a public register); attempt to re-identify individuals or use the APIs to process other people's personal data unlawfully; publish any score or output in a false, misleading or defamatory way; resell raw API responses as a competing dataset; or try to bypass rate limits, credit metering or security. We may suspend or revoke a key that breaches these terms or that risks our own access to a source.

No warranty

The APIs are provided in good faith and “as is” and “as available”, with no warranties of any kind — including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Katalis is not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the APIs or their output. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot legally be limited.

Your responsibility and indemnity

You are responsible for how you use the APIs and their output, including anything you build, publish or decide based on them. You agree to indemnify Katalis against claims, losses and costs arising from your use of the APIs or your breach of these terms.

Changes, suspension and payments

We may change, suspend or discontinue any API, and may update these terms — the date above shows the last change. Paid plans are billed as described at sign-up (prices exclusive of VAT, added at checkout with a VAT invoice) and can be cancelled anytime — you keep access for the period you've paid for. Credit weights and quotas are as published on the plan pages and in your dashboard.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales.
